History of the Vacuum & Sewing Center 

The Vacuum Center of Greenville, S. C. was established in 1960 by John Bearden.  This small family operated repair shop quickly diversified by adding the sale of new and used vacuums. Soon after that addition, the store started repairing and selling new and used sewing machines.  After these changes took hold, Mr. John Bearden opened multiple locations.

 

 In 1980 John Bearden sold "The Vacuum and Sewing Center" to Larry Morgan who had  been managing the store for several years.  When John Bearden retired and Larry Morgan bought the business in 1980, Larry changed the name to "The Original Vacuum and Sewing Center", which is still its name today, 26 years later.

 

The Morgan's continued growing the business for the next 14 years; keeping in mind service after the sale, and the highest quality of repair work. 

 

In 1994 with Larry Morgan's unexpected death, his wife, Sandra, ran the business for the next 8 1/2 years. 

 

In 2002, Sandra Hargett made a trip to Augusta, Georgia to look at a computer system designed for retail vacuum and sewing shops, which the Vacuum and Sewing Store in Augusta, Ga had developed.  W. D. Moye, Jr. was the General Manager for the Vacuum and Sewing Store in Augusta, Georgia.   Sandra knew that W. D. Moye had been in the business since he was 14 years old and would be a great  candidate to come manage their store in the Greenville, The Original Vacuum and Sewing Center.  Sandra’s thought was that W. D. Moye, Jr. would come in and manage the store for a short period of time with an option to purchase the store that has been at 21 Augusta Street since 1960.  As of April 1, 2005, W. D. Moye. Jr. purchased The Original Vacuum and Sewing Center from Sandra Hargett.  Since that time, W. D. Moye, Jr. has made major improvements and renovations throughout the business.  W. D. has assembled one of the finest vacuum and sewing center staffs in the business.  His staff is totally committed to customer service after the sale and total satisfaction.
